About TuneGuesser
TuneGuesser is a free daily game: hear 15 seconds of traditional music, name the country. It is made by Maria Hollweck, founder, Gokoro Apps, a one-person app studio in Brooklyn, New York, and every recording in it comes from public archives under free licences.
Why this game exists
Geography games ask you to look. This one asks you to listen. A lute from Afghanistan, a brass band from Mexico and a choir from Georgia each tell you where you are if you know what to listen for, and the archives that hold these recordings deserve more ears than a catalogue page gets.
Who makes it
Maria Hollweck has built software for fifteen years and runs Gokoro Apps, a small studio for apps and web games. She picks the recordings, writes the checks that keep spoken-word files out, and reads every report.
